There Are Now Original Coloured PlayStation Shoes So You Can Be The Coolest Kid In 1995
Nike are bringing out a new collaboration pair of sneakers with basketball person Paul George but don’t be fooled by the involvement of a sport friend – they have nerd written all over them. Not literally of course but I bet if you translated all those PlayStation triangles, squares, circles and crosses it would say, “Why don’t you go talk to your friends, nerdo McNerdistan”.
Nike say that the new kicks are “inspired by the color-matching of the original PS system”, featuring a pattern of the PlayStation symbols and set out to highlight basketball guy Paul George’s “love for gaming” as a method of “off-court restoration”.
“I need an exit from reality sometimes, to get away, to be in a different place and different moment,” Paul George maybe said in a statement to Nike but most likely a PR person made it up, he approved it and now I’m putting it here. I’m sorry if Paul George is a really good guy – I don’t mean to diss him, I’m just envious that he’s fit, rich and has a deal with PlayStation. Lucky dude.
This isn’t the first lot of Playstation shoes that Nike have made. Since 2006 they’ve been bringing out footwear for the geek masses (see left) with this being the third collab with Paul George. The first collab featured a screenshot of Paul George’s face from NBA2K17 in the innersole (see right), so you can always step on his face and trap him in a perpetual stinky nightmare. The second shoe, the PG2 PlayStation Colourway, is fucking great. It’s inspired by the DualShock 4 and the logos on the tongue light up. I’m annoyed I don’t have them. They’re $600 on ebay. Urgh.
Anyway, the Nike PG 2.5 x PlayStation will debut at the November 21 bouncy ball game against the Golden State Warriors, presumably on Paul George’s feet, though I wouldn’t mind seeing someone dribble the shoes down the court and slam dunk those fuckers. You’ll be able to grab a pair globally from December 1 on the SNKRS app and at select physical retailers.
