When I think of the smells associated with my style of gaming I think sweat, Cheetos and whatever frustration smells like. But Xbox Australia have begged to differ by teaming up with Lynx to bring a fresh ‘levelling up’ scent directly to your nasal cavity.
Yes, Lynx Xbox has entered the fragrance market. The scent, according to their sadly odourless press release, features “pulsing green citrus, featuring top notes of kaffir lime and winter lemon, aromatic herbal middle notes of mint and sage, and woody bottom notes of patchouli and clearwood”. Basically, they’ve tried to make it smell like the colour green. And green smells pretty good. In terms of colour flavour profiles it’s no blue heaven but blue heaven is raspberry anyway, so what is truth?
I digress, the new scent is present in a range of Xbox Lynx products including a body spray, deodorant and shower gel. So at every stage of the day, like grinding through a difficult level, you can real grind the smell of Xbox deep into your epidermis.
Tania Chee, Business Group Lead for Xbox ANZ, had a few things to say about this new frontier.
“We see Xbox fans achieve incredible things every day, and we wanted to celebrate that elevated skill, passion and determination by creating something truly special,” Chee says, “Now, powering up can be as simple as a quick spray before you head out the door”.
Now I know this may have already come up in your personal sniff test but it’s worth stating that these sort of products are usually made to generate conversation around a brand and sell a few cans of Lynx Xbox to aunties seeking $5 presents for the family KK. But perhaps this will signal an organic shift, as gaming companies are freed from the shackles of simply existing within the realm of hearing, feeling and sight, as the console race begins towards smells you can play. I would like to smell Diner Dash please.
The Xbox Lynx range hits supermarket shelves in July exclusive to Australia. Feel free to discuss what gaming smells like to you in the comments below
